The NSBM Green University – Murdoch University Study Tour of Sri Lanka 2024 culminated in a grand closing ceremony, marking the end of a transformative two-week program. The ceremony was enriched by presentations from participants, who shared their experiences and insights gained during the tour. Their focus on regenerative tourism approaches and innovative solutions to industry challenges highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential as a model for addressing global tourism-related issues through sustainable and forward-thinking practices.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe, Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University; Prof. J. Baratha Dodankotuwa, Head of Academic Development and Quality Assurance; Ms. Thilini De Silava, Dean of the Faculty of Business; Dr Dianne Lee, Academic Chair, Tourism and Events/ Senior Lecturer – Murdoch University, Mr. Venura Colombage, Head of the Department of Marketing & Tourism Management; Mr. Janith Iddawala, Ph.D. Candidate and Casual Academic at Murdoch University, Australia; the study tour Team Leads, Mr. Thisal Yatawara, Ms. Senelie Gunaratne, and Mr. Navindu Sathsara.

The event also comprised a stakeholder consultation session with 15+ stakeholders representing diverse facets of tourism and hospitality industry.

The study tour, supported by New Colombo Plan (NCP) funding from the Australian Government, ran for two weeks. This collaborative initiative between NSBM Green University and Murdoch University provided participants with invaluable exposure to Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and tourism landscape through an array of engaging sessions and activities. It included 16 undergraduates from Murdoch University and eight final-year undergraduates from NSBM’s Tourism and Hospitality Management program, along with academic leaders from both institutions.

This landmark collaboration stands as a testament to NSBM Green University’s commitment to fostering international academic partnerships and promoting Sri Lanka’s tourism potential on the global stage.
