The Corporate Academic Round Table (CART) for the BSc (Hons) in Management Information Systems and BSc (Hons) in Technology Management degrees was successfully conducted on 5th December 2024. This event brought together esteemed academic and industry leaders to ensure the curriculum remains relevant and aligned with contemporary industry standards. The initiative focused on revising program content and exploring the inclusion of new modules that reflect the latest trends in information systems.
A distinguished panel of experts enriched the discussion with their diverse insights and expertise. Among them were Mr. Bhagya Boteju, Head of Program Management Office at Commercial Bank of Ceylon; Dr. Pulasthi Gunawardena, Senior Lecturer, Department of Information Technology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura; Mr. Laksiri Balasuriya, Global Practitioner at Virtusa; and Prof. Noel Fernando, Professor at the University of Colombo. They provided invaluable knowledge on leveraging emerging technologies in information systems while shaping the curriculum to prepare students for future career opportunities in the evolving tech landscape.
The event was organized under the guidance of Prof. Chaminda Wijesinghe, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, with support from the academic staff of the Department of Software Engineering and Information Systems. Dr. Mohamed Shafraz, Head of the Department, along with Ms. Pavithra Kankanamge – Senior Lecturer, Ms. Lakni Peiris – Lecturer, and Ms. Dharani Rajasinghe – Lecturer contributed to the success of the event.
The session concluded on a positive note, with participants expressing their appreciation for this meaningful academic-industry dialogue in bridging the gap between academia and industry to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary for thriving careers in information systems.
